Until now I found the clematis a difficult plant, not producing as many flowers as I would have expected, just a few every year.

I don’t know if this year will be different, this is, I think, the third clematis plant we have had so far, I don’t know what happened to the other two, they just vanished somehow.

What is your experience with these plants?

  1. Yes, they are finicky plants, wanting their roots in shade and vines in sun. Mine too sometimes disappear, but once they are established, they can thrive, even when chewed by deer. Some years there are very few flowers, some years many. Here the problem can be when you prune them; they are very particular as to when. I love the flowers and the seed pods, but I have difficulty with them too.

    • Wow, deer! We don’t have any in our small garden 🙂 So it’s not just me, it is a generally delicate plant, Thank you for your insight.
